Galveston, TX (May 5, 2015) – The Texas Tequila and Margarita Festival returns to the Moody Gardens Hotel & Convention Center in Galveston June 19 and 20 to celebrate the cocktail named on the Island and its main ingredient, tequila. The event delivers a gateway to the world’s finest tequila, a robust selection of margarita samples, flavorful food, and gorgeous views of the bay with great live music.

Multiple events make up the two-day festival. Friday, June 19, begins with the Tour De Tequila, a tasting and sampling session that feature some of the best and most respected brands. Learn the proper way to taste tequila and how flavors differ between distilling methods that create blanco, anejo and reposado tequilas. Local restaurants will participate in the showcase by pairing tequila with an array of complimentary flavors.

The Casa Sauza Outdoor Festival takes place Saturday, June 20 nestled between Moody Gardens Hotel and Palm Beach (also known as The Oleander Bowl). This area offers a distinctive shopping experience, fashioned after a traditional Mexican village and a live music stage. This year’s music at the Outdoor Festival has a little something for everyone; blues, reggae, indie rock and TexMex from bands like, Luther & the Healers, Wild Moccasins, Cassette Tape, Free Radicals, Van Wilks and Texas Tornados. Various flavors of margaritas will be offered, with Mexican foods and traditional festival staples from sausage-on-a-stick to funnel cakes.

Saturday afternoon, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the public will have the opportunity to sample a host of margaritas at the Grand Tasting presented by Casa Sauza, where local restaurants/bars and individuals vie for the title of Best Margarita. There will be cash prizes, celebrity judges and a “People’s Choice Award.” The “People’s Choice” award will be given to the restaurant or individual that receives the most votes cast by visitors at the event. During the “People’s Choice,” visitors will be able to vote with their dollar and 100 percent of the money collected will go directly to the festival’s charity of choice, Lemonade Day Galveston.

Lemonade Day is a free, fun, experiential learning program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own business – a lemonade stand. Since its inception in 2007 in Houston, Lemonade Day has grown from 2,700 kids to 120,000 kids in 31 cities across America and Canada – including Galveston. Along the way, participating children acquire skills in goal-setting, problem solving, and gain self-esteem critical for future success. The lemonade sellers keep all the money they make and are encouraged to spend some, save some and share some. Proceeds from the Texas Tequila and Margarita Festival will assist the program in supplying all registered children with a backpack and an Entrepreneur Workbook that teaches them the 14 lessons of Lemonade Day like creating budgets, setting profit-making goals, serving customers, repaying investors and giving back to the community.

The Texas Tequila and Margarita Festival is made possible through the generous support of sponsors; Moody Gardens Hotel & Convention Center, Galveston Convention & Visitors Bureau, Casa Sauza, Liberman Broadcasting, and Herradura and all of the participating restaurants, vendors, and tequila brands. Volunteer opportunities are available, please visit the event website for more information.
