Type of Margarita Tasted: Yuzu Margarita – “Patrón Silver Tequila and Combier Orange Liqueur with organic agave nectar and yuzu sour mix.”
Review: We’ve been to Behinana restaurant’s many times which is typically accompanied with a Japanese beer or fruity cocktail such as a Benihana punch or Mai Tai. One item missing from our experiences here is a margarita. We’ve never associated a Japanese restaurant with the cocktail so it went mostly unnoticed and not ordered during our visits. When our eyes finally made it to that side of the drink menu, we had to order the yuzu margarita to check it out.
The yuzu is a citrus fruit and plant that is rather popular in Japan. It is the size of a tangerine and very sour. This sour taste carried through in the yuzu sour mix that was used but the sweetness from the agave nectar did balance out the tartness a tad. Our main issue with the cocktail was that the sweet and sour overpowered the alcohol flavor. Towards the end, we picked up more of the tequila flavors so it’s possible it wasn’t mixed properly. The type of tequila could be a factor as Patron has a mellow flavor. Overall, this drink was a little better than average to average.
