Copita Anejo Tequila Review

Tres Agaves Reposado Tequila Review

Best tequila in Mexico? Copita made a list on Forbes in which it tagged the company and their offerings as some of the best the country has to offer. This is our first tasting of the companies products and we went straight to the anejo. Let’s see if their tequila can live up to the title.

We could not find a lot of information on this brand and even reached out to the company for process and aging details with no luck. The color is spot on for an anejo so it definitely has that necessary aging time for the style. It’s stats are your typical 80 proof, made with 100% blue agave and is bottled in 750ml glass which boasts NOM 1459. If it is labeled an anejo, it must be one so let’s do a little more investigating.

The bottle appears to be hand blown as each has its own subtle differences. Inside is a small glass (the Spanish translation for Copita is “small glass”) fused to the bottom of the bottle. Each style is represented with a corresponding color, red/anejo, blue/blanco and green/reposado. The imperfections and uniqueness of each bottle produces the impression of a hand crafted product.

It’s contents smell of subtle oak from the aging process and also a small amount of cooked agave comes through. The taste has hints of pepper, vanilla and wood characteristics with little to no burn as it goes down. Copita has an enjoyable flavor that makes you want to try another sip to see what subtle flavors you can pick out next and is a great example of the style.

Copita anejo is about $56 for 750ml at stores throughout Texas. This is a good value if you enjoy an anejo or to just want to get into the style. While you can find cheaper tequilas of this variation, a lot of high end anejo’s will run you closer to $65 and above.

We recommend breaking out a small glass and sipping this one neat.  We look forward to having the opportunity to try out the blanco and reposado in the future as well given the positive experience from this version.
