Agave Experience at La Cava Del Tequila in Epcot

We slept in a barrel and drank tequila

We recently visited Epcot at Walt Disney World to encounter the “Agave Experience” at La Cava Del Tequila, a restaurant and bar on their property. If you aren’t familiar with Epcot, the backside of one of their four parks consists of themed countries from around the world. In the Mexico pavilion lives a small but mighty tequila bar. On past trips, we had visited and tried their creative margarita selection or tequila from their extensive collection. We were excited to see that they had a special experience and immediately reached out to book a reservation. They offered several time options including 11:00 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:45 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Cost may vary by time of year so please ask during booking which we mention how below.
We arrived a few minutes early and were greeted with a margarita as we waited to be escorted into the restaurant. Due to COVID, the area that typically is home to bar tables and chairs is unavailable and has become a tequila tasting room. You can still order drinks at the bar but they are only to-go. We arrived at our table to an exquisite setup which included five Ridel tequila glasses with pours of  Herradura Seleccion Suprema,  Siembra Valles Ancestral (which we talk to David Suro about on a past episode of The Tequila Tester), Clase Azul Reposado, Santanera Extra Anejo and Casa Dragones Joven. There was also bottled water, chips & guacamole, a shot of Real Minero Marteño Mezcal and a palate cleanser of some unknown vodka. There was also a plate with assorted items like a cinnamon stick, lime peel, coffee beans and crickets. We will let you find out on your own what those are for.
We tasted through the flight of tequila while our incredible host Humberto guided us through the process of how tequila is made and how it has an impact on the flavor. He is extremely passionate about the spirit and comes from the town of Tequila in Mexico. He incorporated stories and his experience in the industry to make this a memorable event. We won’t give our opinions on the tequila we tasted as they are subject to change and we wouldn’t want to influence your tasting. The selection was a good representation of what you can find on the market and tequila always tastes better with a story.

We highly recommend booking this especially if you are interested in spirits. The value for what you receive and the overall experience makes the “Agave Experience” a must do while at Walt Disney World.   You can book the experience at lacava@palmasrestaurants.com. They were quick to respond and coordinate a date and time. They rotate their tequila ambassadors so every visit is sure to be unique. If you have participated in this experience, please leave a comment below and let us know your thoughts.
